Owen Maelor Roberts
1946-2025
It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to our beloved Deputy Musical Director, Owen Maelor Roberts, who passed away on 18th November 2025 at the Maelor Hospital, Wrexham.
Owen was a very important part of our lives in the Fron, always there, always listening and ready to correct, always naturally musical with a terrific vocal range and a talent for arranging. We are so indebted to him and will be singing his arrangements for many years to come.
He had such a wonderful sense of humour and the most wonderful laugh that always made the rest of any group join in. His enthusiasm was infectious too and his quiet but extremely sharp wit would always hit its target with a smile that no-one could begrudge, despite the sting!
Owen was a cornerstone of the choir, supporting us through international tours, concerts and the celebrated Voices of the Valley recording era. His quiet leadership, musicianship and mentorship were invaluable to countless choristers over many years.
He was an intrepid walker with the ramblers and we’re sure he will be much missed by them, but it is as a giant in the musical life of Northeast Wales and beyond that he will be remembered. We all know him from the Fron but his influence and talent were generously given to far more than just our choir. He taught, conducted, arranged, played and accompanied all over the area, for soloists and choirs alike.
Rest easy dear friend.

There has been a huge rise in the popularity of choirs in the United Kingdom due in part to the popularity of Gareth Malone’s reality TV programmes and his hugely successful hits with the Military Wives’ Choir.
The Fron Choir is one of the most successful choirs in the country and is always on the look-out for new members. But, apart from having great fun with good mates, what’s in it for me? you ask . . .

Don’t take our word for it – here’s what our clients say:
Hi there,
Firstly I’d like to say what a spectacular choir you are. My grandpa was from Merthyr Tydfil and cited you as his favourite Welsh male choir. He was incredibly proud of his heritage and was the editor of the Western Mail at one point. However, he sadly passed away in 2021 (while your cover of ‘imagine’ was playing) and I made a video for his funeral, coordinated to two of your songs. As the years have passed I’ve been contemplating sending it to you to show just how your work and art has impacted us in some of the most heart wrenching yet sentimental moments. I chose ‘Bring him home’ and ‘Can’t help falling in love with you,’ (which I merged together) as we love Les Miserables and I interpreted that song as us asking God to bring my Papa home to Nana (who passed away 8 months before he did), and can’t help falling in love with you as anyone who ever met him could not help but fall in love with him. I felt I had found gold dust when I found these beautiful covers.
With us due to visit Wales as a family in a couple of weeks it has inspired me to message. I can’t upload the video via this website as it’s too large but if you would like me to share it please do email me. If not, I’d just like to thank you for what you do and for being a source of comfort to me and my family when we needed it most.
Best wishes,

Susie
We’d like to say a big thank you to the choir for an amazing performance at William Aston Hall last night. The second half was especially poignant and so wonderfully put together.
We thought the whole concert was great.

We so enjoyed the Three Choirs Concert last month.
